Dear Philip,
You seem to have missed out the bit when I carried your (supposed) Hand Baggage which weighed a TON, to the Check-In Counter early morning.
You put on such a SAD face, the Check-In Lady let you through!
I somehow reached the office on time. I remember Guy Routledge asking me what happened to my back? I just said I had a slight sprain carrying my Bag! 🥵

I also remember you had ‘borrowed’ Mr. McCraith’s Bowler Hat which I think he is still looking for!

Dear Philip,
The story making the rounds at the Cochin party circles was that you arrived at the Cochin Airport, wearing a 3 piece suit, a bowler hat, an umbrella, AND carried with you, “The  Handbook to Kerala”!!  😉

Hi Philip,
I read your Boat story! I was reminded of the time when I accompanied you on one of the Saturday races. Half way through we noticed that we were way behind everyone else. We were approaching Malabar Hotel, and you said, “What the heck! We might as well stop at Malabar and have a Beer!” Which we did!

On the way back it had become quite windy. We had to take the Boat back to Aspinwall jetty. Instead of turning, the sail opened up and the boat gathered tremendous speed because of the storm. The boatman was shouting from the shore asking us to drop the Centreboard. A crowd had gathered around him.

I was a novice and quite flustered and before we knew it the Boat had gone past Vypeen Island and was heading into a very choppy Arabian Sea!

May be this was the final straw that made me not take up Sailing. The first one was when I was asked by David Panter to crew for him. I was less than a week old in Carritt Moran. David crashed into Jimmy Irens just before the start of a Race and both boats were knocked out of the contest.
David kept his composure and very grandly said, “Well, there’s a lesson for you. This is what you SHOULD NOT do in a race!”
